Are you the reason why you are not seeing results with your body? Or is it your trainer? Or is it your partnership? Great partnerships = Great Results. Here’s how you can be a better partner to your gym and get better results with your health. Rewind back with me to September of 2015. Meet Jim, he lives in Clarkston, MI with his wife and 3 kids.
Home-Cooked meals are non-existent and so is his energy. Jim knows it’s time for a change but he’s frustrated and stressed because he doesn’t know what to do. But he DOES know something that he as REALLY REALLY good at it. He knows how to work a great partnership. Great partnerships = Great Results. After doubting, more doubting and some procrastination, Jim finally takes action and signs up for an 8-week body transformation challenge at a new gym down the road from him. And when I say that he had his doubts, I mean so much that he signs up for the challenge with literally just minutes left. Dale Carnegie once said, “It marks a big step in your development when you come to realize that other people can help you do a better job than you can do alone.” Jim knew this was true and he knew that if he was going to get any type of results, he had to become a good partner with his gym. Time was running short for him and his health. If was ever to make a change with his health, then he had to do it now. He goes all-in with the 8-week challenge. In week 1, Jim eats his new healthy meals and he makes it to his 3 workouts for the week. He hates it, but he immediately starts to feel better about himself. For some reason, he wants more. Then comes week #2 He’s back on the road traveling for work and his whole “new healthy life” thing isn’t looking too good. He’s ready to just throw in the towel and go back to his old habits of eating fast food and stopping altogether. The motivation is replaced with frustration and Jim gets scared that he might lose again and be in a worse spot than where he started. Boom! Jim says enough is enough and he gets creative. He remembers the phone number that called him when he signed up for the 8-week challenge, he sends a text to that number saying: “Hey, I’m at this restaurant, what should I eat?” In his mind, he was thinking: “I’ll never get a response.” Within minutes, he gets a response text saying: “Get the steak & asparagus, drink water. Send me a pic when you get it to your table.” So he does. Throughout his travel, he does this again and again for each meal. Jim realizes that if he’s a better partner to his trainer, he can change his life. Great partnerships = Great Results. When Jim returns back from his trip, he hits the ground running. 8-weeks fly by and before he knows it, Jim lost more than 20 pounds and 5% body fat. Fast forward to now and Jim, his wife, his 2 daughters, and his son are now ALL IN GREAT SHAPE. Here are Jim and his family today Great partnerships = Great Results. Here is how you can be a better partner for your gym so that you too can get these life-changing results. 1) Screw your agenda! Jim traveled, he had a job, kids and all of the distractions that you have too. He didn’t let any of that get in the way. Our boot camp schedule became his schedule. He showed up at 6 PM every night as if his life depended on it. If you want results in the gym, you better be ready to let your agenda change. Great partnerships = Great Results. 2) Add value to your partner (the gym) daily. If you want results in any kind of partnership you always have to give more than you receive. Sure, Jim received a meal plan, workouts, and a coach, but he gave the gym WAY MORE than what the gym provided him. Jim gave hard work and courage daily. He showed up consistently, ate the foods we told him to eat and did it with a smile on his face. When you are out of shape, that is a lot for anyone to ask. If you want to be a better partner, you’d better be willing to give more than you get. Great partnerships = Great Results. 3) Give your partner (trainers) the resources. Jim told us about his work, his family and he told us what makes him so good at his job. We used all of that to get him success. The more info you give your partner (trainers), the better.
The more your trainers/gym knows about you the better. Give them all of the details that they need. 4) Tailor yourself to meet your partner’s (the gym) needs. Jim asked us question after question when he first got started. They were all GREAT questions too! When you ask legit and great questions, you get legit and great answers and you become more invested with your fitness plan. Asking great questions that are honest and open-minded make for great partnerships. Tailor yourself by asking the right questions. Great partnerships = Great Results. 5) Never violate trust Would you ever not show up to a date with somebody you really liked? No. When you sign up for a session with your gym it’s the same thing. You are jumping in on a partnership that requires you to be present. Jim never missed a class and was never late. He was present at the gym and in the partnership that he signed up for. When you show up on time and on schedule it’s one of the biggest signs that you actually give a shit and respect the gym. Do that and great partnerships form. Great partnerships = Great Results. 6) Respect the relationship and grow in it. After the 8-weeks was done, Jim continued with the partnership. In fact, 4 years later he is still with us today and he’s still hungry for more results. His partnership is still a mutual benefit situation. Fitness is just part of his life and his family’s life now and that is never going to change. If you want to have a good relationship with fitness, you better be ready to nurture the relationship.
Constantly take yourself through steps 1-6 and keep doing it. Great partnerships = Great Results. As you head into this week, ask yourself: Am I doing my part in this partnership? Chase It! BB PS. If you want to get started on the challenge that got Jim started, click here. |
